An animal rescue charity recently hosted a themed celebration to honor a month dedicated to rescued pets. Batterseaโs Old Windsor center threw a party on Monday for its cats and dogs, in support of the charity’s September “Wear Blue for Rescue” campaign.
The animals had fun with blue-themed paddling pools, toys, games, and treatsโthe color that dogs are known to see best. Team leader Zenya Green shared that the campaign is “all about celebrating the love we have for rescue animals.”
Among the partygoers was Marvin, a three-year-old Lurcher who has been at Battersea for over 170 days, making him one of the charity’s longest residents. While Marcie the bulldog and Marshmallow the white cat are still looking for homes, Daisy the Labrador and Apple the Lurcher have since been rehomed following the event.
In 2023, Battersea, which operates out of London, Windsor, and Kent, cared for 2,529 dogs and 2,450 cats. In addition to direct animal care, the charity supports wider animal welfare efforts through campaigns, advice for pet owners, and backing of animal welfare advocates.
Ms. Green expressed her excitement, stating, “We believe rescue animals are the best, and what better way to kick off a month-long celebration than with a special event for the animals awaiting their forever homes?”
Battersea is encouraging others to join in the festivities by hosting their own rescue animal parties or participating in the “Walk for Rescue” challenge, which involves walking distances of 18.6 miles (30km), 37.3 miles (60km), or 55.9 miles (90km) to help raise funds for the charity.
“We’re eager to see how the rest of the month unfolds,” Ms. Green added.
