Flori’s Friends Rescue, based near Canterbury in Kent, specializes in caring for paralyzed dogs and finding them new homes. Founded by Natalia George, the rescue helps dogs not just from the UK, but also from places like Gaza, Oman, China, and Greece.
Recently, the rescue has faced challenges due to more dogs needing care and fewer donations. Natalia George is worried about having to turn away up to three pets a day because of financial struggles made worse by rising costs.
To help, Flori’s Friends Rescue has started a fundraiser aiming to raise £5,000. This money will ease the burden of buying specialized equipment needed for paralyzed animals.
Despite these challenges, the rescue operates a 24-hour rescue line, showing their commitment to supporting animals in need.
Natalia George explained that the funds raised, though still short of covering their bills, will be used for urgent needs like getting a new prosthetic leg for a dog hurt in a lorry accident and providing a leg brace for a Border Collie in its final stages.
She also noted an increase in dogs coming to the rescue due to abuse and owners unable to afford care amidst higher living costs.
Flori’s Friends Rescue continues to need support to keep providing specialized care and finding homes for vulnerable animals.
The rescue is known for its innovative approach, including custom leg-replacement wheels that help paralyzed dogs move freely. They also offer hydrotherapy sessions and daily walks to keep the dogs active and happy.
“We give these dogs the same freedom as any other. They can play and enjoy life, despite their challenges,” said Ms. George enthusiastically.
The charity’s no-kill policy ensures every dog gets a chance at a good life, showing their commitment to compassion and care.
