A Sweet Cat With One Big Weakness

This is Lute — a gentle, black rescue cat with a heart of gold. She’s calm, affectionate, and easygoing in almost every situation.

Almost.

Her one true weakness? Yarn.

A Crime Spree Begins

Lute’s obsession started when her mom, Delaney S., moved in with a friend who loves crocheting.

“She really developed her love for yarn when I moved in with a friend who does a lot of crochet projects,” Delaney told The Dodo. “Lute will literally dash up, snatch the project out of my roommate’s hands — hook and all — and make a mad run for it.”

From that day on, no ball, skein, or loose strand was safe.

“She just can’t help herself,” Delaney said.

When the Yarn Fights Back

Eventually, the household tried to protect their supplies by hiding all the yarn in a backpack in the kitchen. But even that didn’t stop Lute’s daring heists.

One day, Delaney and her roommate were relaxing in the living room when Lute wandered in from the kitchen — looking oddly defeated.

Around her neck, like an accidental cone of shame, was a paper yarn label she couldn’t remove.

“We all cracked up,” Delaney said. “This time, the yarn finally fought back for her long history of yarn crimes.”

Justice Is Served

Lute stood frozen, clearly confused by her unexpected defeat. Thankfully, her humans came to the rescue and gently removed the label.

The battle may have been lost — but the war is far from over.

A Legendary Yarn Bandit

“Lute still commits yarn crimes whenever the opportunity presents itself,” Delaney said. “But I try to give her other ways to play so she doesn’t get too crazy.”

Despite her mischievous streak, Lute is deeply loved.

“She’s an absolute delight and well-loved in our household and in the community,” Delaney added.

And somewhere, a ball of yarn is already looking over its shoulder. 🧶🐈
