She’s safe and happy now β€οΈ
Late last month, a 1-year-old cat named Ajita found herself in a terrifying situation. In the middle of the night, her previous owner placed her in a carrier and abandoned her outside a Minnesota animal shelter. Trapped inside, she rolled around desperately, trying to escape. But no matter how hard she struggled, she couldnβt break free.

At one point, the carrier even tipped into the road, putting her in the path of speeding cars. Fortunately, a passing pedestrian noticed the danger and quickly moved her back in front of the shelterβs door, out of harmβs way.
When shelter staff arrived the next morning, they found the distressed cat and immediately freed her. As they examined her, they discovered she had been hiding a secretβshe was pregnant and just weeks away from giving birth. Despite everything she had endured, Ajita was miraculously uninjured. She quickly warmed up to her rescuers, showing them nothing but trust and affection.

Inspired by her resilience, the team at Ruff Start Rescue named her Ajita, which means βinvincibleβ and βunconquerable.β
After receiving vaccinations and plenty of food, Ajita was placed with her foster mom, Rachel. To Rachelβs surprise, Ajita immediately embraced her new environment with warmth and affection.
βAjita came out of the carrier and was instantly grateful and loving,β Rachel told The Dodo. βIf I hadnβt seen the video myself, I never would have guessed she had been through such a traumatic experience.β
Rachel believes that if surrendering pets carried less stigma, fewer people would resort to abandoning them outside shelters. Rescue organizations always prefer that animals be safely surrendered inside their facilities, regardless of the circumstances.
Now, Ajita is just days away from giving birth. In a few months, once her kittens are weaned, the entire little family will be ready for adoption.
βThis mama is a true survivor,β Ruff Start Rescue shared, βand with all the love and support sheβs receiving, sheβs ready to start the next chapter of her lifeβwith a family of her own.β
