The other day, while walking his dog, Simon, along the beach, George Hoagy Morris, an animal medic with British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR), stumbled upon a sick seal pup hidden among the rocks. Simon’s keen sense of smell led him to the pup, who was in desperate need of help.

Morris immediately called for backup and waited for his colleague, Alison Davey, to arrive. When she got to the beach about 30 minutes later, Morris directed her to the seal. They were both struck by how well the little seal blended in with its surroundings. Davey, in awe of the pup’s camouflage, snapped a photo before getting to work on its rescue.

Later, once the pup was safe and in the hands of the rescuers, BDMLR posted the photo on Facebook, showing just how hard it was to spot the seal in the rocks. The caption read, “We didn’t quite believe there was a seal here but we can assure you there is! Have you found him yet?”

For those still struggling to find the seal in the picture, Morris and Davey had already identified the little guy’s critical condition. They transferred him into a seal bag and carried him onto the sand for a full assessment. The pup was suffering from a number of issues, including alopecia and dehydration.

After feeding him some food through a tube to help him regain some strength, the team rushed him to BDMLR’s Cornwall Seal Hospital, where he could receive the urgent care he needed. Thanks to the team’s swift and careful actions, the seal pup is now on the road to recovery.

After being treated at the hospital, the seal was moved to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, where he is being cared for. Once a hidden, sick seal, he’s now receiving the love and attention he needs to get better, and he’s happily recovering in a safe and nurturing environment. This once-missed pup is now on his way to a full recovery, thanks to the dedication of animal rescuers who went the extra mile to save him.
