“I trail her … and she ducks sideways into the jungle.”

Sisters Aria and Grace Keilbach, cofounders of Boonie Babies animal rescue, were driving through a remote area on the island of Saipan when they saw a dog jump into the road. Concerned, they stopped and offered the dog food, but she was too agitated to eat. The dog began walking toward the trees, and the sisters decided to follow her.

As they trailed the dog, she led them to a hidden spot in the jungle where she had been caring for her litter of five puppies all alone. The puppies were in poor condition, covered in fleas and ticks, with swollen bellies indicating a severe worm infestation.

The sisters knew they had to act fast to save the puppies, but the mama dog was protective and wouldn’t let them near her babies.

After a difficult decision, Aria and Grace decided to take the puppies first, knowing they wouldn’t survive without immediate help. They left the mama behind, but vowed to return for her the next morning.

The next day, they found the mama dog right away. Though she refused food, all she cared about was getting back to her puppies. She jumped into the car willingly and rode in the front seat back to the shelter, where she was quickly reunited with her babies. Once together, the whole family wagged their tails in joy.

In the end, each puppy and their brave mama found their forever homes. Thanks to the mama dog’s trust in the sisters, her family is now safe, healthy, and loved.
