“Grace is very attached to her.”
Graceโs Unseen Love
Meet Grace, a sweet senior dog who shows that love transcends sight. At 12 years old, Grace faced a painful eye condition that led to the loss of her vision. On her vet’s advice, both of Grace’s eyes were removed, but this didnโt dull her heartโs capacity for love.
โWe ultimately knew it was the best way to keep Grace comfortable and pain free,โ said Shelby Salmela, Graceโs mom.
A Special Bond with Grandma
Although Grace can no longer see, her bond with Salmelaโs mother, whom she affectionately calls Grandma, has remained unshaken. Before the surgery, Grace would run with joy into Grandmaโs arms. Now, even without her vision, her excitement is just as strong when Grandma visits.
โItโs so cute to see how excited Grace gets when she realizes that the person at the door is her GG,โ Salmela shared.
Love Shines Bright Despite Darkness
Despite her blindness, Graceโs love for Grandma remains as vivid as ever. Her world, while seemingly dark, is filled with the warmth and brightness of her heart’s deep connections.
Grace may lack one sense, but her ability to love is stronger than ever. In fact, her blindness might even keep Grandmaโs presence closer to her heart.
A Connection Across the Miles
Though Grandma moved out of state three years ago, Grace remains deeply attached. The two now connect through daily FaceTime calls, and Graceโs reaction to her Grandmaโs voice is a testament to the unbreakable bond between them.
โEven when she hears my momโs voice during those video chats, she gets excited,โ Salmela said.
For Grace, love is not limited by sightโitโs a feeling that remains strong, no matter the distance.
