Eleven-year-old Davos, an extraordinary Bernese Mountain Dog, is making a meaningful impact on charity unlike most individuals his age – because, well, he’s a dog!

Together with his devoted owner, Al Cooper, Davos is on a mission to raise funds by collecting golf balls on their local golf course, using his keen nose to retrieve stray balls.

Al’s connection with Davos runs deep, especially during Al’s battle with cancer. Davos emerged as a beacon of support during Al’s darkest days, earning the title of Al’s “rescue dog.”

The tale takes an unexpected turn when Al noticed Davos’s uncanny ability to find golf balls during a routine visit to the golf course. The massive canine would eagerly leap off the golf cart to recover stray balls, accumulating so many that they had to resort to storing them in their freezer!

The revelation struck Al one day while watching TV and witnessing an advertisement depicting distressed and neglected dogs.

Davos, visibly moved by the plight of those unfortunate canines, inspired Al and his wife to embark on a philanthropic journey. The ingenious idea was born – sell the accumulated golf balls and donate the proceeds to the Humane Society.

Their venture proved successful, and on Give to the Max Day in Minnesota, USA, Davos and Al made a generous donation of $1000 to the Humane Society. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, coinciding with National Animal Shelter Week, which meant their donation would be tripled by anonymous donors.

Deanna Kramer of the Animal Humane Society, Golden Valley, aptly summarized the heartfelt gesture, stating, “We get the pleasure of starting the day with a big check from a big dog with a big heart.”
