Baby White Rhino Nova Charms Visitors in Belgium’s Pairi Daiza Zoo

BRUGELETTE, Belgium (AP) — Nova, a baby white rhino, stole the show at Belgium’s Pairi Daiza zoo on Wednesday, delighting visitors with her playful energy as she leaped and pranced beside her mother, Ellie.

Born on January 2, the rare calf initially spent time in a warm, secure space, allowing her to build strength and gain weight. Earlier this week, Ellie proudly introduced her to the other rhinos at the renowned Belgian zoo. Nova also had a tentative first outing, giving the public a chance to catch a glimpse of her.

For Ellie, this isn’t new—Nova is her fourth offspring, and she’s accustomed to the attention.

Southern white rhinos, native to Southern Africa, remain an endangered species, making Nova’s birth a significant and hopeful event.
