Animal Rescue Centre Urgently Appeals for ยฃ40,000 to Stay Open
Hillfield Animal Home in Stretton, just outside Burton upon Trent, is urgently seeking to raise ยฃ40,000 to avoid closure amid soaring costs.
Although the centre operates as Burtonโs RSPCA branch and is part of the wider RSPCA network, it functions as an independent charity. This means it must generate its own funding to continue rescuing and rehoming animals in need.

The branch has described its financial situation as โcritical,โ putting the future of the centre at serious risk. At present, the shelter is home to nearly 50 cats, 20 dogs, nine rabbits, and a guinea pigโall waiting for loving, permanent homes.
Arthur Ashton from the Burton branch said, โThis is a very worrying time for us. Our finances are now in such a dire state that, without urgent help, we may be forced to shut our doors for good.โ
He explained that rising staff and veterinary costs, combined with a drop in donations and shop income, have made it harder to stay afloat. โVet bills alone cost us more than ยฃ7,200 every month,โ he added.

A fundraising campaign titled “Save Our Animal Home” has already raised over ยฃ7,000, but much more is needed to secure the centre’s future.
The animals currently at the shelter have all been rescued from situations involving neglect or cruelty. Among them is Bella, an eight-year-old cat whoโs been waiting for a new home for 104 days, and Nero, a four-year-old American bulldog cross whoโs been at the shelter for 188 days. Three bonded pairs of rabbits, all considered long-term residents, are also looking for homes.
Georgia Coxon from RSPCA Burton upon Trent & District Branch urged: โIf youโre thinking about bringing a pet into your life, please consider adopting. We have so many wonderful animals ready for their second chance at happiness.โ
