βShe looks like a completely different dog.β
Scared and alone, a poodle named Babs recently found herself wandering near a snow cone stand in Dayton, Texas, unsure of where to turn. With no one looking out for her, Babs had developed mange. Her skin was pink and patchy, and her tufted hair stuck out at odd angles.
Eventually, someone noticed Babs and put out a call for help. Local dog rescuer Kristin Erwin quickly responded. By the time Erwin arrived, Babs was lying on her side at the bottom of someoneβs porch. Erwin quickly devised a plan to get Babs to safety.
βIt was extremely hot out, so I decided to pull out my dog trap to get her more quickly,β Erwin said. βI loaded it with sausage and other leftovers. I pulled away in my vehicle so she could approach it, and within seconds she was smelling around the trap and walked right in.β
With help from ThisIsHouston, Erwin arranged medical care for Babs. As she welcomed Babs into her home, Erwin braced herself for a difficult transition. But it turned out Babs didnβt have a mean bone in her body.
βI didn’t know what to expect once I got her home,β Erwin said. βIt turned out she was one of the sweetest dogs and truly only wanted attention and love. She was very affectionate and seemed very appreciative to be off the streets and out of the Texas heat. She quickly attached herself to us!β
As the weeks went by, Babs slowly transformed into the bubbly, fluffy poodle she was always meant to be. Erwin couldnβt believe the change.
βComparing her day-one photos to current photos is just wild,β Erwin said. βShe looks like a completely different dog.β
In time, Babs connected with her forever family. These days, Babs doesnβt have to worry about making it on her own. Sheβs constantly surrounded by those whoβd never leave her behind.
βShe is living the good life,β Erwin said. βShe has a new fur sibling that she plays with and two human siblings β¦ Her family adores her and can’t believe how sweet and gentle she is.β
