She wanted love so badly ๐Ÿ’”

A typical morning at the Lancaster Animal Care Center in California quickly shifted into an unexpected rescue when staff noticed a carpet cleaner box left outside the front gate.

Sensing something was wrong, team members hurried over โ€” and were heartbroken to find a frightened, sick dog huddled inside. The pup, later named Gladys, stared up at them with scared eyes.

Staff gently lifted her from the cramped box and brought her somewhere warm and quiet so she could calm down. Later that same day, the Stand Up For Pits Foundation arrived for their Serving Angels program, which provides meals to shelter animals. After hearing about Gladys and meeting her in person, they immediately offered to take her into their care.

Gladys was rushed to the foundationโ€™s veterinary hospital, where she was examined thoroughly. She was underweight and suffering from a hernia along with several infections โ€” yet her spirit remained bright.

โ€œSheโ€™s magical in every sense,โ€ said Rebecca Corry, executive director of the foundation. โ€œShe craves connection and adores every person and dog she meets.โ€

As days passed, rescuers watched Gladys slowly regain strength. They loved spending time with her and discovering her quirks.

โ€œShe loves snacks, being carried, and she snores like an 800-pound man,โ€ Corry joked. โ€œSheโ€™s funny, affectionate, and so thankful to finally be cared for.โ€

Corry hopes Gladysโ€™ story serves as a reminder.

โ€œDogs arenโ€™t disposable,โ€ she said. โ€œTheyโ€™re living, feeling beings โ€” true gifts to humans.โ€

Gladys will remain at the Stand Up For Pits facility for a few more weeks while she heals. Once sheโ€™s fully recovered, sheโ€™ll begin her search for a forever home.

For now, her rescuers are simply focused on giving her everything she needs.

โ€œShe just needs more of what sheโ€™s getting now,โ€ Corry said. โ€œLove and care.โ€
