Meet Exmoor Zoo’s New Red Panda Cubs: Amber and Pumpkin

Two adorable red panda cubs born at Exmoor Zoo have officially been named Amber and Pumpkin. The names, chosen from a long list of listener suggestions from BBC Radio Devon, reflect an autumn-inspired theme.

Selected from Autumnal Favorites

The female twin cubs, Amber and Pumpkin, were born in June to proud parents Shifumi and Pan, both of whom previously lived at Bristol Zoo. Exmoor zookeepers shared that they are now working to help the cubs recognize their names, which were revealed on John Acres’ breakfast show. Other suggested names included β€œConker” and β€œChestnut,” capturing the cozy essence of fall.

A Chance to See the Cubs

Evie Madden, one of Exmoor’s zookeepers, noted that visitors will have a chance to see Amber and Pumpkin at specific times. “They’re usually active between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. when they get their breakfast,” Madden explained. “After that, they’ll take long naps during the day, coming out again around 3 p.m. to play.”

Staying Close to Family

A spokesperson for Exmoor Zoo confirmed that Amber and Pumpkin will remain at the zoo alongside their parents, allowing guests to watch the red panda family grow and thrive.
