Recently, a Pennsylvania resident spotted a curious cardboard box outside their home, with a message scrawled on the side that read, “Free Puppy.”

“The caller reported a box in front of their house labeled ‘free puppy,’” said Sara Hornbeck, director of East Coast Bulldog Rescue, in an interview with The Dodo. Upon peeking inside, the resident locked eyes with an 8-week-old white puppy huddled within.

Animal control officers quickly arrived and took the pup to their kennel, where she stayed briefly before being transferred to East Coast Bulldog Rescue for further care. Meeting the friendly and relatively healthy puppy, the rescuers were shocked by her circumstances.

“Once we picked her up from the animal control kennel, we quickly discovered she was the sweetest, most lovable girl, and surprisingly in good shape for a puppy that had been discarded like trash,” Hornbeck explained.

The staff named the puppy Roxy and shared her story online, where it quickly gained attention.

“She immediately stole the hearts of our social media followers,” Hornbeck noted.

Among the many who followed Roxy’s story, one family member of a previous adopter felt an instant connection.

“A family member of a previous adopter fell in love with Roxy,” Hornbeck said. “Their family had recently and unexpectedly lost their beloved dog and knew that Roxy was the perfect companion to honor their girl, Junie Bug, and help heal their hearts.”

Now safe with her new family, Roxy can look forward to a life filled with devotion, friendship, and love.
