They weren’t expecting that reaction.
Halloween Surprises for a Friendly Squirrel
With Halloween just around the corner, Mal Kennedy and her family decided to hang up a few “spooky” decorations on their porch — a couple of ghostly skeletons and a cat-faced bat wearing a bowtie.
Though those figurines aren’t the scariest decor imaginable, their sudden appearance came as quite the shock to one particular resident. Over the past few years, the family has befriended a local squirrel who lives in a tree near their home.
“[He’s] our little buddy. We’ve named him Tim,” Kennedy shared. “He has a girlfriend who just had babies in the same tree.”
Tim’s Unexpected Reaction
Tim often drops by Kennedy’s porch to enjoy water and snacks she leaves out for him. However, on this day, he got more than he bargained for.
“I hung up the Halloween decorations at night, and the next morning Tim saw them,” Kennedy explained.
The friendly squirrel wasn’t thrilled by the sight of the new decorations. He reacted as if he’d seen a ghost — and in a way, he really had.
A Warning Call
Sounding out a warning call to anyone within earshot, Tim let it be known that something eerie was afoot.
Kennedy did her best to reassure him, saying, “It’s OK, bud.” Fortunately, Tim eventually regained his composure, realizing that the decorations weren’t nearly as threatening as they may have seemed at first.
“I almost took [the decorations] down because he seemed afraid to come back onto our deck,” Kennedy admitted. “But he started coming around again, so I know that he’s OK with them.”
