Unexpected Visitor
Last week, while out camping, Nick Guertin awoke at the crack of dawn to use the restroom. As he unzipped his tent, a curious little orange cat suddenly darted towards him, leaping into the tent and settling in as if it had always belonged there.
Instant Connection
When Guertin returned, the cat made itself at home, curling up next to him and making biscuits with its paws, head-butting him, and purring loudly. It was as though they were lifelong friends. “I was like, ‘Oh, this is adorable,’” Guertin shared.
Growing Bond
Initially unsure if the cat’s affectionate behavior would continue, Guertin was pleasantly surprised when the little feline returned. Over the next few days, the cat began to spend more and more time with him, joining him by the campfire, while he cooked, and of course, in his tent.
From Dog Person to Cat Dad
Though Guertin considered himself more of a dog person and had little experience with cats, the outgoing and loving nature of this particular cat won him over.
Heartwarming Discovery
The heartwarming encounter quickly caught the attention of TikTok users, who were enchanted by the cat’s immediate affection. It seemed like a scene from a fairy tale, with many commenters convinced that Guertin and the cat were destined to be together.
One commenter mused, “I think he adopted you.” Guertin was determined to ensure the cat wasn’t already someone’s pet. Despite the cat’s friendly demeanor and lack of a collar, it was clear it had been well cared for.
A New Home
A nearby resident confirmed that the cat was a young stray, roaming the area since kittenhood.
With this new information, Guertin knew he had to take the cat in. He treated the little feline to some snacks and decided on the perfect name: Camper.
“You have been chosen,” another comment read.
A New Chapter
What began as a camping trip for a self-described dog person ended with Guertin becoming a proud cat dad. He never imagined such a turn of events, but he’s thrilled with the unexpected addition to his life.
