Two of the eight cats that escaped during a break-in at a rescue center have returned home. The Compassion for Cats center in Oakhill, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, was targeted on Monday, leading to the escape of six cats after the doors were left open.

Judy Knowles, 71, who manages the center, confirmed that Jeff and Gill have returned, but Biscuit, Jasper, and Elsa are still missing. “Jeff came back this morning, and it’s incredible considering his traumatic past,” Ms. Knowles said. β€œWe’re amazed that he’s so comfortable here that he found his way back.”

Local neighbors have reported sightings of some of the remaining cats, and Ms. Knowles remains hopeful of finding them. “Initially, I was disheartened and distrustful of people,” she admitted. “But the response has been overwhelming. So many have reached out with donations and support.”

A local business has offered to donate cameras to install CCTV, which Ms. Knowles believes will help in the search. “I’m truly overwhelmed by the kindness and support from the community,” she added.
