She’s eager to learn ❤️
Lunch Lady was found wandering around the Louisiana SPCA, and it took a team of dedicated staff members to finally catch her.
“She wasn’t microchipped, so there was no way to track down her previous owner,” explained Jessyca Sulfsted, the marketing and communications manager at Louisiana SPCA. “After our veterinarian gave her a thorough check-up and treated her for some minor medical issues, we realized that no one had come forward for her. So, we had her microchipped, vaccinated, and prepared for adoption. We named her Lunch Lady because of her refined demeanor and the fact that we caught her around lunchtime.”
Although Lunch Lady was initially hesitant about being rescued, she quickly warmed up once she was in the shelter’s care. Shy but incredibly affectionate, she seemed eager to find her forever home — though she needed a little help with one thing.
It was clear that Lunch Lady had likely never experienced a home environment before, making leash walking a completely foreign and somewhat intimidating concept for her.
“We realized right away that she needed some training,” Sulfsted noted. To remind the staff and volunteers about her need for leash training, a sign was placed on her kennel that read, “Hi, I need help learning to walk on a leash.” This way, anyone taking her out would know to give her extra support.
Initially, Lunch Lady walked on a leash with all the stealth of a secret agent. But thanks to the dedication of her new friends at the shelter, she’s making noticeable progress every day. “She’s shown incredible improvement, and we’re confident she’ll become a leash-walking pro very soon,” Sulfsted added.
Lunch Lady’s perfect home would be with a family that will support her ongoing learning and exploration in a safe environment. And, of course, she’ll need plenty of snuggles — a task that should be delightfully easy for any loving family.
