“I was in awe …”

A few months ago, Arteman Córdova was out fishing with friends on a lake near his home in Ecuador when he made an unexpected and life-changing discovery.

The adventure began when Córdova heard a faint whimpering from the shore followed by a splash. Squinting from his boat, he spotted a small, black figure swimming determinedly towards him.

It was a tiny puppy, paddling eagerly in his direction.

“We were anchored, so we couldn’t move closer,” Córdova told The Dodo. “I was amazed that the puppy would leap into the water and swim to us without knowing who we were.”

The bond was instant. Once the puppy was aboard, Córdova quickly realized the extent of her plight — she was starving. He suspected she had been abandoned nearby and had swum out in search of help.

And she found it.

Córdova shared his lunch with her and named her Medusa. But their story didn’t end there.

“I knew as soon as she swam toward me that I was going to adopt her,” Córdova said.

True to his word, he brought Medusa home.

“I’ve had Medusa for two months now,” Córdova shared. “She has settled in wonderfully with my family, and we all adore her.” That day, Medusa’s life took a turn for the better — and Córdova’s did too.

“Finding her was incredible,” he said. “I’m truly happy with Medusa.”
