Meet Frankie — a pit bull puppy whose journey began inside a Pampers diaper box. It was April when Frankie was left abandoned in that box, callously discarded curbside in Buffalo, New York. Desperate for aid, little Frankie poked his head out from the makeshift cardboard shelter, hoping for someone to notice him.
Eventually, Robin, a local business owner, spotted Frankie outside her store. Robin, a steadfast supporter of West Side Cat Rescue, didn’t hesitate to reach out to the shelter for assistance, holding onto hope that their expertise extended to helping dogs as well.
Upon receiving Robin’s call, Jamie Mulligan, the founder of West Side Cat Rescue, couldn’t shake the feeling that Frankie’s abandonment outside Robin’s establishment was no mere coincidence.
“We suspect someone knew he would be taken care of and that Robin would do the right thing,” a representative from West Side Cat Rescue shared.
Though their specialty lay with cats, the rescue staff refused to let Frankie be overlooked.
“Unfortunately, our local shelters are overflowing with pit bulls that struggle to find homes,” the representative explained. “Jamie knew she couldn’t take him to an already overcrowded shelter.”
The staff took Frankie to the vet, ensuring he received proper care, and provided him with essentials like puppy food, a collar, and a leash.
Jamie’s daughter, a regular helper at the rescue, readily agreed to foster Frankie. Over time, she formed a strong bond with him, leading her to decide that he needed a new name. She settled on Percy. It became evident to everyone involved that Percy and Jamie’s daughter were destined to be together.
