When Danielle and her husky, Pandora, recently moved to a new home, they were looking forward to settling into the neighborhood and meeting new people and pets. Danielle figured making close friends might take a while, but Pandora had other plans.
On one of their very first walks, the husky spotted someone special โ and instantly became obsessed.
Not long after moving in, Danielle decided to take Pandora for a walk to a nearby park. As they made their way along a peaceful residential street, Pandora suddenly noticed a patch of fluffy white fur behind a fence.

Curious and excited, she immediately wanted to investigate.
The dog on the other side was a Samoyed, and Pandora wasted no time pulling Danielle toward the yard so she could introduce herself.
โPandora spotted [a] Samoyed โฆ and pulled me towards her to say hello,โ Danielle told The Dodo.
Pandora hurried over to the fence, eager to meet the fluffy stranger. Danielle later learned that the Samoyedโs name was Sissy.
At first, Danielle wasnโt sure how Sissy might react to an unfamiliar dog suddenly approaching her yard. But any concern disappeared almost immediately.
Sissy seemed every bit as excited to meet Pandora.

โIt was love at first sight,โ Danielle said. โThey got along straight away.โ
The two dogs began sniffing each other through the gate, sharing little kisses and reaching their paws between the metal bars.
Danielle loved seeing Pandora connect with another dog so quickly, especially after moving somewhere new.
Eventually, though, they had to continue their walk to the park. Danielle reassured Pandora that they would visit Sissy again.
And they didnโt have to wait long.
The very next morning, Danielle and Pandora headed toward the park again and made another stop at Sissyโs house.
The dogs spent about 10 minutes together before Pandora had to continue on her walk. By then, however, their meetings were already beginning to turn into a routine.
โEvery morning, I take Pandora to the park, and she starts to pull me and whine because she wants to say hello to her friend,โ Danielle said. โAnd now this is part of our daily routine.โ

Before long, visiting Sissy became one of Pandoraโs favorite parts of the day.

Even though the fence prevented them from running around together normally, the two dogs found plenty of creative ways to play.
Sometimes they race back and forth along opposite sides of the fence. Other times they crouch into playful bows, or Sissy suddenly bursts into a case of the zoomies around her yard.
โSometimes they run from one side of the gate to the other side as if they were chasing each other. Sometimes they bow, and Sissy gets zoomies in the garden,โ Danielle said. โBut mostly they like to be close to each other.โ
For several weeks, Pandora and Sissy continued their friendship entirely through the fence. Danielle hadnโt yet been able to properly connect with Sissyโs family, but that recently changed.
She finally managed to get in touch with Sissyโs parents and hopes the two dogs will soon be able to have a real playdate together.
Sissyโs family was delighted to discover that she had made such a close neighborhood friend, and Danielle was equally happy to see Pandora settle into her new surroundings so quickly.
Now, thereโs just one thing left to do: let the best friends finally spend some time together without a fence separating them.
โHopefully, it will happen soon,โ Danielle said.
