β€œI hurried and grabbed him.”

She Thought She Found A Piece Of Trash Moving Outside The Courthouse β€” Then She Saw A Kitten Inside

Two years ago, Lexis Noelle was driving through McKee, Kentucky, when something strange caught her attention outside the local courthouse.

At first, it looked like nothing more than a piece of litter blowing around. But then she noticed it was moving.

As a longtime animal advocate and rescuer, Noelle immediately pulled over to investigate. When she got closer, she realized the β€œtrash” was actually an empty Dairy Queen cup with bits of fudge still stuck inside.

And there was something trapped in it.

At first, Noelle thought she was looking at a tiny opossum. But as she moved closer, she realized the animal was actually a kittenβ€”and he was struggling to breathe.

The kitten was β€œgasping for air,” and Noelle knew she had to act quickly.

β€œI hurried and grabbed him so he wouldn’t take off running,” Noelle told The Dodo. β€œI brought him in the car and opened the lid to the cup, and he just stared at me with wide eyes and hot fudge all over his face.”

Noelle carefully took the frightened kitten home, where she gave him a much-needed bath. She washed the sticky fudge from his fur, removed the fleas and wrapped him in a warm towel. She also scheduled a veterinary appointment for the following morning.

At first, Noelle intended to care for the kitten temporarily before finding him a place at a shelter she trusted.

But it didn’t take long for those plans to change.

Just two days after rescuing him, Noelle realized the little kitten had already become part of her family.

β€œHe had already found his home with us,” Noelle said. β€œMy two female cats took him right in, and he loved them to pieces. My three dogs also took to him immediately, so I knew he didn’t have to go anywhere.”

The kitten was named Fudge, a fitting name for the little cat who had been found covered in the sweet treat.

Today, Fudge is all grown up. He has become a fluffy, happy cat who is completely devoted to the family that rescued him.

Noelle can’t imagine her life without himβ€”and she still feels incredibly lucky that she happened to notice that strange piece of β€œlitter” moving outside the courthouse that day.

β€œFudge is a smart, silly, happy, chunky boy!” Noelle said. β€œHe loves to play in water, play with his cat sisters, and nap on his catio … He is so silly and is constantly making us laugh.”

What looked like an ordinary piece of trash turned out to be a tiny life in desperate need of help. And because Noelle stopped to take a closer look, Fudge got the second chance he neededβ€”and a family to call his own.
