“Then they set off running.”
For the past two years, Michelle Wilcock has been running Lola’s Pet Sitting Services in Barnsley, England. During that time, she has cared for many dogs, but two dachshunds named Buddy and Jake have become especially memorable.
“I have looked after them a few times now, and they are gorgeous boys,” Wilcock told The Dodo.
Whenever Buddy and Jake stay with her, Wilcock takes them on daily walks around the neighborhood and through local parks.
At first, the dogs seem happy and excited to be outside. But after a while, they begin walking very slowly, as if they are completely exhausted.

That is, until Wilcock turns around and starts heading home.
She first noticed their little trick during one of their walks.
“I discovered their tendency to want to go home when we were walking, and I said, ‘Come on then, we will turn around,’” Wilcock said. “And then they set off running.”
The moment Buddy and Jake realize they are heading home, they suddenly seem to have plenty of energy again.
