What began as a strange sight on the streets of West Hollywood ended with one very lucky pig landing an extraordinary new home.
Jamaal Harrison was riding his e-bike through the neighborhood when he noticed a small pig running loose among the traffic and sidewalks. Having never encountered anything like it before, he immediately became concerned for the animal’s safety.
Harrison began following the pig, hoping he could somehow guide him away from danger or catch him.
The little runaway, however, had no intention of slowing down.
Clearly overwhelmed by his unfamiliar surroundings, the pig continued racing through the area as curious residents watched. No one seemed to know where he had come from or who he belonged to.
Eventually, Harrison lost sight of him.
Still worried, he shared the unusual encounter on social media in hopes that someone might recognize the pig or know what had happened to him.
Before long, there was good news.
The pig had been safely taken to the West LA Animal Shelter.
Now called Wilbur, he had managed to make it through his adventure without suffering any serious injuries. Shelter staff initially waited to see whether an owner would come forward, but no one arrived to claim him.
By then, Wilbur had already become something of a local celebrity.
People across Los Angeles had followed his story online, and some even stopped by the shelter to meet him in person. Harrison was among those who visited, happy to see that the animal he had chased through the streets was finally safe.
As interest in Wilbur grew, so did the number of people hoping to give him a permanent home.
There were eventually so many interested adopters that the shelter organized an auction to determine where Wilbur would go next.
And in a city famous for unexpected Hollywood endings, Wilbur’s story delivered one of its own.
The winning adopter was award-winning songwriter Diane Warren.
Warren is known for writing songs recorded by some of the biggest names in music, and she also happens to be an animal lover with plenty of space for Wilbur to enjoy.
Instead of returning to crowded city streets, the little pig is now headed for a much quieter life at Warren’s animal sanctuary in Malibu.
The property stretches across several acres and is home to animals who can live comfortably away from the dangers Wilbur encountered during his brief adventure in West Hollywood.
For everyone who followed his journey, the outcome could hardly have been better.
Wilbur went from mysteriously running through Los Angeles with no clear home to becoming one of the most talked-about animals in the city — and eventually finding a peaceful place where he can spend the rest of his life.
His unexpected trip through Hollywood may have been frightening at first, but it ultimately led him exactly where he needed to be.
