During a peaceful camping trip in Sweden, Phontus Oktabec and his partner experienced an unexpected encounter with one of the area’s smallest residents.
The moment began while they were walking toward the campground bathroom. In the distance, they heard the familiar metallic sound of an aluminum can rolling across the paved path.
At first, they assumed the breeze was pushing it along. But as they moved closer, they discovered a much more charming explanation.
The Hedgehog Behind the Noise
A wild hedgehog was repeatedly nudging the discarded can with her nose, sending it rolling across the ground.
The sight was so unusual that Oktabec’s partner immediately pulled out his phone and began recording. The tiny animal appeared completely absorbed in her discovery, following the can and pushing it forward again and again.
It was impossible to know exactly why the object had captured her attention, but she seemed to be treating it like a new and exciting toy.
A Few Moments of Play
For several minutes, the hedgehog continued investigating the can.
She nudged it, followed it and watched it roll, seemingly delighted by the movement and noise. To the campers, it looked as though she was simply enjoying herself.
The playful encounter transformed an ordinary walk through the campground into a memorable wildlife moment.
A Reminder to Protect Wildlife
After the hedgehog eventually wandered away, Oktabec picked up the abandoned can and disposed of it properly.
Although the can had briefly entertained the curious visitor, discarded metal containers can be dangerous to animals. Wildlife may become trapped, injured by sharp edges or exposed to leftover substances inside.
Removing the litter ensured that no other animal would be harmed by it.

The unexpected meeting left a lasting impression on the couple.
