β€œThey just left her in the street …”

A few months ago, a dog named Hope was left in a heartbreaking situation after the backyard breeders who had raised her decided to abandon her on the streets of Los Angeles because she did not meet their expectations.

While living as a stray, Hope found companionship in another homeless dog, a husky named Angel. Angel had been left to survive on his own after his family was deported, and for two months the two dogs stayed together, protecting and comforting each other until rescuers were finally able to bring them to safety.

When Isabelle Sance, founder of Stacy Hope Rescue, learned about them, she knew she wanted to step in. People in the neighborhood where the dogs had been surviving explained that Hope had been discarded by her breeder because of an eye problem that required surgery.

Sance later learned that Hope was suffering from eyelid entropion, a painful condition in which the eyelid turns inward. Fortunately, it was treatable, and after surgery Hope immediately began to feel much better.

Once her medical care was complete, Stacy Hope Rescue placed Hope with a foster caregiver. It did not take long for her foster parent to fall for her gentle, affectionate nature.

Sance described Hope as a loving and easygoing dog who is happiest curled up on a couch or bed, snuggling close to the people she trusts.

Hope quickly grew attached to her foster parent, which made it especially hard when that temporary placement came to an end after just one week. Given her past and the abandonment she has already endured, rescuers say what she truly needs now is a family ready to make a lasting commitment.

They believe Hope would thrive with people who want to spend time playing with her and making her feel included. One of her favorite activities is playing with a hose. While she is a little uncertain around cats, she would likely do well in a home with other playful dogs.

Sance says Hope is especially deserving of a devoted family, ideally one where she would not be left alone for long stretches and could enjoy the stability she has been missing.

Everyone at the rescue is saddened that Hope is still waiting for someone to choose her, but they are also inspired by how trusting and sweet she remains despite everything she has been through.

According to Sance, Hope’s eyes still show kindness and trust, which makes her resilience all the more remarkable.
