She wasn’t expecting that.
Earlier this month, Abbie, a Sydney resident and TikTok user, received a text from her brother that she definitely wasn’t expecting.
“Hate to alarm you,” Xavier wrote. “But there is a possum sleeping in your bed.”
Possums — marsupials native to Australia — are known for popping up in unusual places. Still, this was news Abbie was not prepared for.
“Pardon?” she replied.
Concerned but determined to handle the situation, Xavier decided the unexpected guest needed to be gently moved outside.
Although possums are generally harmless, the idea of one curled up in a bed was enough to call for action.
At first, Xavier tried to carefully scoop up the sleepy animal using a pool tool — a method that proved to be as nerve-wracking as it sounds.
Realizing he might need expert help, Xavier called a wildlife professional to safely handle the situation.
Using a humane trap, the possum was eventually secured and taken outside without harm.
“I can confirm the possum was completely unharmed,” Xavier later said. “As soon as I opened the cage, it ran straight up a tree.”
And just like that, what started as one of the most alarming sibling text messages ended with a safe — and slightly hilarious — resolution.
