Travelers browsing the gift shop at Hobart Airport expected to see rows of cute stuffed animals.
What they didn’t expect… was one that blinked.
One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others
Among the plush toys sat a real-life possum, perfectly blending in with the display.
At first glance, it looked just like the others — soft, still, and adorable.
Until someone realized:
It was very much alive.
Airport employee Melissa Oddie captured the moment, joking that no one could say their plush toys weren’t realistic.
A Confused Little Visitor
Staff quickly stepped in to help guide the unexpected guest back outside.
But the airport environment — full of corridors, doors, and barriers — proved confusing for the tiny marsupial.
Like many wild animals, it had likely wandered in by accident while exploring.
A Common Aussie Adventurer
The animal was a Common brushtail possum, a species known across Australia for its curiosity and adaptability.
These possums are famous for:
- Sneaking into buildings
- Exploring rooftops and attics
- Turning up in the most unexpected places
So while surprising, this wasn’t entirely out of character.
Back Where He Belongs
Thankfully, airport staff later confirmed the possum was safely relocated back outside.
After his brief stint as a “toy,” he’s now back in the wild — where the only things he’ll be cuddling are fellow possums, not plushies.
Still, for one moment, he might’ve been the most convincing stuffed animal in the world. 🧸🐾
