The dog, nicknamed “Jet Blue,” was placed in the care of the nonprofit Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas.
A 2-year-old goldendoodle is now safe after being abandoned at the JetBlue ticket counter at Harry Reid International Airport earlier this month.
The incident, which occurred on Feb. 2, was captured on airport video. Authorities later arrested the woman involved and charged her with animal abandonment and resisting arrest.
What Happened at the Airport
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to reports of a dog left behind at the ticket counter just before 11:40 p.m.
Police said the woman attempted to board a flight but did not have the proper paperwork required to travel with the dog as a service animal. After airline staff denied her a boarding pass, she allegedly walked away β leaving the dogβs leash tied to the counter.
Officers later located her at her departure gate.
In body camera footage released by police, an officer questioned her decision to leave without the dog. Authorities said the woman claimed the dog had a tracking device, suggesting it would be able to return to her. Police also reported that she became hostile and resisted officers as they escorted her back through security.
βWe canβt believe we have to say thisβ¦ but please donβt abandon your dog at the airport β or anywhere else,β the department wrote in a public statement.

From βJet Blueβ to a Second Chance
Airport staff and officers cared for the dog β nicknamed βJet Blueβ β until animal protective services took custody.
After the owner failed to reclaim him during a mandatory 10-day hold, he was transferred to Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas, a nonprofit dedicated to helping dogs in need.
The rescue says Jet Blue is now thriving in foster care.
βThis sweet boy is incredible. Truly incredible,β the organization shared. βAfter everything heβs been through, the thought of him ever experiencing abandonment again has us on very high alert.β
The group emphasized that they will carefully screen potential adopters to ensure he finds a stable, committed forever home.
βHe deserves stability. Security. Commitment. A lifetime promise.β
A Reminder for Travelers
Airlines require specific documentation for service animals and pets traveling in the cabin or cargo. Experts advise pet owners to verify all requirements well before arriving at the airport to prevent stressful β and potentially tragic β situations.
Fortunately, in this case, Jet Blueβs story is heading toward a hopeful new chapter β one where he wonβt be left behind again.
