“We could barely see the dog beneath the mats.”

Fredo’s Shocking Arrival

When Fredo first arrived at the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) headquarters, rescuers could hardly believe their eyes.

The timid pup was “unrecognizable”—skinny, suffering from skin infections, and buckling under the weight of his dirty, matted, overgrown coat.

“[W]e could barely see the dog beneath the mats,” PSPCA wrote. “[H]e could hardly move.”

A Troubled Past

Rescuers discovered that Fredo had been living with an elderly parent who was unable to give him the care he desperately needed. Now safe in the hands of PSPCA animal experts, he was finally on the path to recovery.

Uncovering Fredo’s True Self

PSPCA veterinary staff immediately began working on Fredo’s matted coat, carefully cutting it away to reveal his perky ears and big, soulful black eyes. They treated his skin infections, provided dental care, and removed a small mass from his face.

Slowly, Fredo’s real personality began to shine.

“Slowly but surely, the real Fredo has begun to emerge: a sensitive soul who just needed someone to see him, to help him, to give him a chance,” PSPCA shared.

A Playful Transformation

Once freed from the mats that had held him down, Fredo began engaging with his new friends, chasing a ball around the rescue center. He leapt through the air, tail wagging, and radiated renewed energy.

“Fredo is a completely different dog—playing, loving, and finally ready to begin his next chapter,” PSPCA wrote.

Ready for a Forever Home

Today, Fredo is available for adoption. Rescuers are hopeful that he won’t have to wait long to find his perfect match.

“Fredo is healing. He’s comfortable, he’s clean,” PSPCA wrote. “And he’s ready to find a family who will make sure he never feels forgotten again.”
