βI think he sensed that Jono was not feeling well …”
Angus, a 9-year-old corgi, has never been known as the affectionate type β especially with other dogs. He prefers his personal space, avoids cuddling and often chooses solitude over company.
So when his younger brother, Jono, returned home from the vet after a tough medical procedure, Angusβ reaction caught everyone off guard. Instead of keeping his distance, Angus walked straight up to Jono and gently wrapped himself around him in a hug.
βI instantly burst into tears,β said their mom, Marian Phan, in an interview with The Dodo.
She and her husband, Davis, had never seen Angus behave that way before. The famously βgrumpyβ corgi had never initiated affection toward Jono β until that moment.
βI think Angus could tell that Jono wasnβt feeling well,β Phan said. βHe just knew.β

The two dogs have a classic big-brotherβlittle-brother relationship. Jono constantly seeks Angusβ attention and wants to be part of whatever heβs doing, while Angus pretends to be annoyed β even though he almost always gives in. When Jono tries to squeeze into Angusβ bed for a cuddle, Angus may grumble in protest, but he eventually shifts over to make room.
Despite their bond, their personalities couldnβt be more different. Jono is easygoing and affectionate, happiest when heβs eating, sleeping or making new dog friends. βHe loves everyone,β Phan said. βHeβll walk right up to other dogs and give them kisses. Heβs just pure love.β

Angus, by contrast, is reserved and independent. Heβs highly active and thrives on running and swimming. βThey really are opposites,β Phan said.
Jonoβs life hasnβt been easy. He was diagnosed with chylous effusion, a condition where lymphatic fluid leaks into the chest, making breathing difficult. Over time, heβs endured multiple procedures to relieve the fluid buildup. Thankfully, after his most recent vet visit, the family received encouraging news: a medication appears to be helping control the condition.

βHeβs doing much better now,β Phan said.
Through every challenge, Jono has never been alone. Angus may not be outwardly affectionate, but when it mattered most, he showed up for his little brother.
βSeeing Angus comfort Jono in that moment was incredibly touching,β Phan said. βNo matter how different they are, they truly love each other β that sibling bond is always there.β
