β€œThey had been left … in a cardboard box as if they were trash.”

A few months back in NiΕ‘, Serbia, Ivana Nesic from MISI’s Animal Rescue was heading to her car after work when a small dog suddenly ran up to her. The poor pup was extremely thin and looked like she had been neglected for quite some time.

When Nesic tried to approach her, the dog nervously backed away and began walking off. Curious and concerned, Nesic followed β€” and soon discovered why the dog had sought her out.

Just a few steps away, Nesic spotted a cardboard box filled with tiny newborn puppies. It was clear that they belonged to the malnourished mother, who had been doing everything she could to care for them despite having no food or water.

β€œThey were left in a cardboard box by Ivana’s car as if they were trash,” said MISI’s Animal Rescue staff member Isidora Stevanovic.

Inside the box were seven puppies, all snuggled together. They were incredibly small, their eyes still closed.

β€œThe puppies were only a day or two old,” Stevanovic explained.

Nesic immediately offered the mother dog food and water, then rushed the little family to the rescue for medical attention. Thankfully, aside from hunger and dehydration, all of them were in good health.

The rescue named the mother dog Banana, and her puppies Aris, Artur, Alfi, Bea, Dina, Ella, and Galla. A foster dad welcomed all of them into his home, giving them a warm and safe place to grow.

Over the next three months, the rescuers watched the puppies thrive. As they got older, their personalities blossomed, and they quickly turned into lively, playful balls of energy.

β€œThe puppies are happy, healthy and incredibly playful,” Stevanovic said.

When the pups were fully weaned, Banana found her forever home. A relative of one of the rescue workers fell in love with her gentle nature and adopted her.

β€œShe has such a lovely character β€” she’s soft, affectionate, and always seeking love and attention,” Stevanovic shared.

Now, the seven puppies β€” all around 3 months old β€” are ready to find families of their own. The MISI team is confident they will make wonderful companions. After everything they’ve survived, they deserve homes where they’ll be cherished and cared for.
