But still she was ignored …
When Peanut, a 7-year-old pit bull, arrived at the Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC), staff quickly noticed something special about her. While many dogs take time to adjust to the shelter environment, Peanut found comfort in the most unexpected way β by carrying around her beloved stuffed toys.
Peanutβs Love for Stuffies
Transferred from another shelter, not much was known about Peanutβs past. But one thing became clear right away: she adored her stuffies.
βDespite it all, sheβs remained silly, sweet, and full of love,β HSBC wrote on Facebook.

From plush hamburgers to squeaky crocodiles, Peanut didnβt discriminate. She carried her toys everywhere β from her kennel to her morning potty breaks, and even on outings with staff. Shelter workers made sure she always had a variety to choose from, knowing how much comfort they brought her.
Overlooked Because of Age

Even with her affectionate, playful personality, Peanut was repeatedly overlooked by adopters.
βPeanut has been with us for some time, and we truly donβt understand why,β HSBC shared. βShe greets everyone at her kennel door with pure joy, always ready to make a new friend.β
Sadly, older dogs in shelters often get passed by in favor of younger puppies. But the HSBC team never gave up hope.

The Viral Video That Changed Everything
Determined to help Peanut find a family, HSBC posted a video of her proudly carrying her favorite stuffies. The sweet clip quickly captured hearts online β and one family in particular decided Peanut was the dog for them.
A Happy Ending for Peanut
When it was finally time for Peanut to go home, the shelter staff made sure she didnβt leave empty-handed.
βBefore leaving our shelter, she picked up one last toy from us,β HSBC said. βAnd she went straight to greet her new family and brother.β
Now Peanut is exactly where she belongs: surrounded by love, joy, and, of course, plenty of stuffed toys.
