Marley loves a good party.
Senior Pup Steals the Show at Family Party — Thanks to One Genius Idea
At a recent backyard celebration, all eyes were on Marley, a 16-year-old Yorkipoo — not just because he’s adorable, but because he showed up wearing a balloon tied to his collar.
The reason? To keep party guests from accidentally tripping over the tiny, slow-moving senior dog.
“He still likes to be the life of the party, so we didn’t want to keep him inside,” said Alexa Stockhausen, whose family hosted the event. “It was the best solution to have him join the party, but in a safe way.”
The gathering was in honor of Alexa’s sister Erica’s engagement, and it was Erica who came up with the clever idea. The result? A hilarious and heartwarming success.

The Balloon That Saved the Day
The balloon — which read “BEWARE OF DOG” in bold black marker — was a playful nod to Marley’s gentle spirit. Despite the warning, the pup is anything but dangerous.
“No one tripped, so it was a 10 out of 10,” Stockhausen said. “He kept it on the whole day.”
Party guests loved the idea and, more importantly, Marley was able to be part of the celebration, right alongside his favorite humans.

“He doesn’t like to be alone very much, so I think he would prefer this over anything so he can be with everyone,” Stockhausen added.
A Life Full of Love
Marley has been with the Stockhausen family since Alexa was in eighth grade, after she begged her mom for a dog. Since then, he’s become a deeply loved companion — always nearby, always wanting to be involved.
“He’s always been such a people dog,” Stockhausen said. “If we’re sitting on the couch, he has to be on the couch.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when Alexa moved back home from New York City, Marley was thrilled to have her around again.
“I was taking work calls, and he was just always sitting on my lap or right next to me,” she said. “Kind of just following me around the house.”
Now, as Marley enjoys his golden years, he’s still soaking up every moment — especially when he gets to be surrounded by his favorite people. A little slower these days, perhaps — but still very much the life of the party.
