Law enforcement hopes others take note.

Sheriffโ€™s Office Urges End to Inhumane Glue Traps After Chipmunk Rescue

The Jefferson County Sheriffโ€™s Office in Colorado is urging the public to stop using glue traps, a common but controversial method for catching unwanted animals.

These traps, designed to adhere to anything that touches them, are cruel by natureโ€”indiscriminate in what they capture and often leading to slow, agonizing deaths for the creatures caught.

To shed light on their dangers, the sheriffโ€™s office recently released body cam footage of a heart-wrenching rescue. At a local business, a tiny chipmunk had become stuck on a glue trap. Fortunately, Animal Control Officer Kylie Rupe responded in time.

โ€œWith some mineral oil and plenty of patience, she carefully freed the little critter and released it back into the wild,โ€ the sheriffโ€™s office wrote.

The chipmunk was luckyโ€”but many animals caught in glue traps arenโ€™t. Wildlife, pets, and even birds are routinely harmed by these devices.

A Plea for Humane Alternatives

The sheriffโ€™s office hopes the incident will raise awareness and inspire more compassionate action when it comes to dealing with wildlife.

โ€œGlue traps might seem like an easy solution,โ€ the office wrote, โ€œbut they can cause a lot of harm to pets and wildlife, not just pests. If you are looking to remove unwanted guests, search for more humane options.โ€

From live traps to professional removal services, better solutions existโ€”ones that donโ€™t risk unnecessary suffering.

โ€œLetโ€™s use solutions that keep all our neighbors safe,โ€ the sheriffโ€™s message concludes.
โ€œNo glue required.โ€
