They’re so tiny 🥺
Recently, animal rescuer Priscilla Wolcott was out on a call when a concerned passerby approached her with an urgent tip about some dogs in need. The Good Samaritan explained that two adult dogs and their puppies had been abandoned at a nearby deserted property. Wolcott, who works as an animal control officer at Fresno Humane Animal Services, initially thought the group consisted of a mom, dad, and their pups. However, upon arrival with her rescue partner, they discovered two mother dogs, each caring for their own separate litters.
The dogs were found curled up beneath an old trailer. As Wolcott watched them, she witnessed something truly heartwarming. “What was so adorable was seeing them take turns nursing each other’s puppies,” Wolcott shared with The Dodo.
In situations where dogs are closely bonded and facing harsh conditions with limited milk, it’s not uncommon for them to share the responsibility of feeding each other’s litters.
“They really depended on one another,” Wolcott said. “It was beautiful to see how they supported each other.” Despite having been on their own for several days, both mothers had kept their puppies healthy and well-fed.
Wolcott safely collected all the puppies and their moms and brought them back to the Fresno Humane Animal Services shelter. One of the moms, named Gorda, has puppies called Iris, Lewis, Waylon, and Edward. The other mama, Ziggy, is raising Finn, Bennie, Alfred, Pandora, Breezy, Ringo, Nigel, and Turner.
“They’re still a bit shy, but they’re all very gentle,” Wolcott noted.
Now, their next chapter is to find loving, permanent homes. Once the puppies grow up and everyone is spayed or neutered, they’ll be ready to be adopted. After all they’ve endured, they deserve nothing less than a safe, forever family.
