“He just sat there, scared and cold” 😰
The day before Valentine’s Day, animal rescuer Suzette Hall received a message that deeply upset her. A local railroad worker had sent her a photo of a brown dog curled up alone in the corner of a cold elevator. The dog appeared frightened and helpless, and despite the elevator repeatedly moving between floors, no one had stopped to help him.

Suzette Hall, the founder of the rescue group Logan’s Legacy 29, said it was heartbreaking to think about how long the dog may have been trapped there, scared and cold. Although the railway station was open to the public, the elevator itself was usually restricted to staff members who needed a special pass. Somehow, the dog had managed to enter the lift but was left behind when others exited.

Thankfully, one compassionate railway employee refused to ignore the situation and contacted Logan’s Legacy 29 for help. Volunteer Mary Nakiso immediately rushed to the station, where a staff member allowed her access to the restricted elevator.

When the doors finally opened, Nakiso saw the dog sitting silently in the corner, clearly terrified. A worker held the doors open while Nakiso gently wrapped the dog in a blanket and carried him out through the rain to her car. Once safely inside, the dog seemed to relax for the first time.

Nakiso confirmed that the dog, later named Clay, was finally safe. Although his rescue was only the beginning of his journey, Clay appeared relieved to be out of the elevator. He curled up in his blanket and quickly fell asleep, warm and secure at last.

Clay was taken for a medical check-up, which he passed with no issues. Soon after, he was placed in a foster home with Rebecca Taylor. While waiting for a permanent home, Clay settled in quickly, bonding well with Taylor’s two young daughters and her dog.

Rebecca Taylor described Clay as a sweet and gentle dog who fit perfectly into family life. A few weeks later, the foster arrangement became permanent when Clay was officially adopted.

Now fully settled into his forever home, Clay is thriving. Once a forgotten dog trapped in an elevator, he is now living a happy life with a loving family and a bed of his own. His rescuers said they could not be happier to see him safe and loved, calling him a truly special dog.
