“Every time he hears me closing the shades, he appears.”

In a quiet corner of Argentina, Daiana Chavez pours her heart into her small bakery, delighting her community with fresh bread and sweet treats. Over the years, she’s built strong connections with her customers—but one of her most loyal visitors isn’t a person at all. He’s a four-legged regular named Mateo, a dog who insists on being her very last customer each night.

As soon as Chavez begins closing up shop, it’s only a matter of moments before Mateo appears, as if he’s been waiting all day for this exact moment.

“I barely start pulling down the shades, and Mateo shows up,” Chavez shared in a TikTok video. “Every single time.”

Without fail, the moment the bakery’s security screen comes down, Mateo dashes through the door, takes a seat, and patiently waits for his nightly treat.

“What do we have left today, Mateo?” Chavez asks, scanning a basket of surplus bread.

She selects a roll and hands it over, and with gentle appreciation, Mateo takes his prize and trots outside, ready to savor his snack.

After Chavez posted a video of Mateo’s adorable routine, concerned followers wondered if he was a stray in need of more care. But Chavez quickly reassured them.

“Don’t worry, Mateo isn’t homeless,” she explained in a follow-up post. “He was abandoned once, but my neighbor rescued him. He’s well taken care of, loved, and has a home right next to the bakery—with his brother, Rocco.”

Despite his nightly hunger, Mateo isn’t neglected in the slightest. In fact, with a bakery full of doting employees next door, he might just be one of the most spoiled dogs in town.

“He’s such a sweetheart,” Chavez said. “The girls at the bakery love him—we pet him, feed him, and he’s always so obedient and grateful.”

Mateo is so smitten with the bakery that he often sneaks back inside after finishing his first treat, hoping for a second helping. Unfortunately, for the sake of his health, his baked good allowance is limited. But what he lacks in extra treats, Chavez more than makes up for in love and cuddles.

“Mateo, we love you so much,” she said.

And it’s clear—Mateo loves them right back.
