If you’re planning a major donkey rescue, what better place than Abermule?
This quaint village in Powys became the backdrop for a dramatic operation when Nikki, a donkey, tumbled 20 meters (65 feet) down a slope near a river.
The rescue effort involved about 15 firefighters and a veterinarian, who used an inflatable sled to guide Nikki safely across the water and back to her pasture, where her companion awaited her.
The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service received the call shortly before 9:00 AM GMT on Sunday. The operation, which lasted around three hours, required sedating Nikki to ensure a smooth and safe recovery. Post-rescue photos showed she was in good spirits, unharmed by her ordeal.
Specialists from the animal and water rescue team joined fire crews from Montgomery, Newtown, Welshpool, and Rhayader to bring Nikki back to safety.
