A few months ago, a senior dog named Shock arrived at ACCT Philly after his family could no longer care for him.

At 15 years old, Shock was in rough shape. His fur was matted with thick tangles, his nails were painfully overgrown, cataracts clouded his eyes, and a head tilt caused him to stumble when he walked. But while his physical condition was concerning, rescuers at the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA), where Shock was transferred, were most heartbroken by his emotional state.

β€œShock seemingly had no idea what had happened, no understanding of why he was abandoned or why everything he once knew was slipping away,” the PSPCA shared in a Facebook post. β€œHis entire world had been turned upside down, and he was completely alone.”

Determined to help, the rescue team shaved the mats from his fur, trimmed his nails, and placed him on an IV to restore hydration. They braced themselves for the possibility that Shock might not recover.

But Shock had other plans.

β€œShock surprised us all,” the PSPCA wrote. β€œSlowly, he began to improve. His tail started to wag again, and he found the strength to take a few tentative steps. He’s still a bit head-shy, but the spark of life in his eyes is undeniable.”

As the weeks went by, Shock continued to heal. Eventually, he was ready to find a new homeβ€”and it didn’t take long for someone to fall in love with the resilient pup.

At last, Shock’s story had a happy ending.

β€œFor the last time, his life is changing again,” the PSPCA announced. β€œThis time for the better, as he heads to his new forever home. Happy life, sweet boy.”
