“It’s time he learns what love is” ❤️

Earlier this month, Sabrina Garcia, an avid animal lover, discovered a mouse in her home. After gently capturing the mouse, she hurried outside to release it into the wild. As she searched for a suitable spot, she peered into a sewer drain and was met with a surprising sight: two brown eyes staring up at her.

To her astonishment, nestled at the bottom of the sewer was a large dog, hidden from view in the bustling residential neighborhood above ground.

“They couldn’t believe their eyes when they looked down and saw him,” wrote Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 dog rescue, on Facebook. “[H]e couldn’t even cry for help because nobody would [have] heard him.”

The dog, later named Donatello, locked eyes with Garcia, silently pleading for assistance. Without hesitation, Garcia reached out to Logan’s Legacy 29, and a team of volunteers, including Hall, swiftly responded to her call for help.

Upon arrival, the team quickly realized the gravity of Donatello’s situation. They were stunned to find that the opening to the sewer was incredibly narrow, leading them to sadly conclude that Donatello’s predicament was no accident.

“There was no way he got down there by himself,” Hall wrote. “Someone had to have put him there!”

Devastated for Donatello, the rescuers were determined to give him the love and care he deserved. They quickly located an unlocked manhole cover over the sewer and lifted it, revealing a long ladder inside.

Two rescuers descended into the dark depths while Hall and another volunteer waited anxiously above ground. After a tense few minutes, the brave volunteers hoisted Donatello through the manhole opening.

“We did it!” Hall exclaimed. “He truly is a miracle.”

The team carefully placed Donatello in a crate and loaded him into Hall’s van. They immediately headed to Camino Pet Hospital, where Donatello drifted off to sleep to the soothing sound of Hall’s reassuring words.

At the hospital, Donatello underwent extensive medical examinations. Veterinary staff discovered a variety of trash in his stomach and a small towel lodged in his intestines.

“He was so hungry, he ate whatever he could find,” Hall explained on Facebook. “He wouldn’t have survived down there.”

Donatello’s condition was dire, but he had a dedicated team of professionals by his side. The pup underwent emergency surgery to remove the intestinal blockage, and he recovered remarkably quickly.

Despite the challenges ahead, Donatello faced an extensive treatment plan with determination. With plenty of cuddles, a cozy bed, and nutritious meals, his quality of life improved drastically.

Donatello’s intestinal issues are finally improving, and he is hopeful for one last surgery to correct his inverted eyelids. Soon, this sweet boy will be ready to find his forever home, but for now, he’s reveling in the affection from his caretakers at the pet hospital.

Alongside his medical care, Donatello will soon begin therapy to address his anxiety, which unfortunately makes him cautious around other dogs. While the road to recovery may seem daunting, Hall remains steadfast in her belief that it will all be worthwhile.

“He is worth every effort,” Hall shared on Facebook. “It’s time he experiences the full extent of love.”
