She has beautiful white fur π
While riding her motorcycle through Bali, animal rescuer Desy Morgenstern spotted a distressed puppy by the roadside. Her concern drove her to stop and investigate.
Up close, Morgenstern was alarmed at the dogβs condition. Most of its fur had fallen out, exposing pink, sore-covered skin. βShe was essentially bare,β Morgenstern recounted to The Dodo.
To help, Morgenstern offered treats and attempted to leash the pup, but it darted away, leading her into a nearby building.
Inside, Morgenstern found the dog curled up in a tiny cardboard box, barely big enough to fit her small frame. She looked up at Morgenstern, frightened. The buildingβs owner explained that the dog had been sleeping in the box nightly.
βIt must have been her safe haven,β Morgenstern reflected.
Eventually, she managed to secure the dog and rushed her to a vet, who diagnosed multiple health issues.
Bali Paws, the rescue organization Morgenstern collaborates with, took the dog in and began her treatment. They named her Piggy, inspired by her pink skin. However, within a month, Piggyβs fur began to grow back. βIt was incredible to see her transformation,β Morgenstern said.
Now healthy, Piggy is unrecognizable, boasting a thick white coat and a cheerful expression. Sheβs closely bonded with Morgenstern and eagerly interacts with new people. βI can hardly believe she was once afraid of humans,β Morgenstern said.
Although Piggy is cherished at Bali Paws, the team is searching for her forever home. Described as βgentle, playful, and great with other dogs,β she would be an ideal companion.
βPiggy loves the outdoors, running freely, and playing as much as possible,β Bali Paws shared on Instagram. βSheβs not fond of cages β she thrives in open spaces where she can be her joyful self.β
With any luck, Piggy will soon find a family that ensures she never has to seek comfort in a cardboard box again.
