“This has got to be so confusing for a dog.”

For years, Domenic Biagini has been capturing stunning whale videos and sharing them on TikTok. While most people never get such close encounters with whales, watching his TikToks comes close. Recently, Biagini wanted someone special to experience these whales up close—his Lab, Fin.

When Biagini and his co-captain, Erica Sackrison, took Fin out on their boat, there were about 50 blue whales nearby. They turned off the boat’s engine and waited quietly.

As soon as Fin saw a whale’s back emerge from the water, he stood up, staring in awe. After watching the whale breathe through its blowhole, he looked back at Biagini, as if to confirm if this was real. “[The] dog is like, ‘Are you guys seeing this?!’” one commenter joked.

Blue whales, weighing around 300,000 pounds, are the largest animals ever to exist on Earth, while Labs weigh about 60 pounds. This means a blue whale is about 5,000 times heavier than a Lab. It’s no surprise that Fin seemed amazed by such a colossal creature.

People in Biagini’s comments enjoyed imagining what was going through Fin’s mind at that moment.

“This must be so confusing for a dog,” one commenter noted.

Some people were concerned that Fin might get too excited and try to jump into the water with the whale. Fin had actually tried something similar before.

“The first time I took Fin on the boat, when he was a puppy, he ran to the front and jumped off into the bay,” Biagini shared on Instagram.

This time, Biagini and Sackrison were extra cautious. They made sure to hold tightly to Fin’s harness while he watched the whale and kept him secure with two leashes and bungee cords.
