A Concert Trip Leads to an Unexpected Rescue

When Brooke Morosca traveled to New Orleans in October 2024 to attend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, she expected to spend the weekend making memories with friends and exchanging friendship bracelets with fellow fans.

Instead, the trip changed her life in a way she never imagined.

While driving to the Airbnb she had rented with family and friends, Morosca spotted a yellow Labrador lying in the middle of the road. The dog appeared exhausted and was covered in dirt and fleas, prompting Morosca to stop and check on her.

Moments later, another dog emerged from nearby bushes.

The black mixed-breed dog was severely underweight and clearly in poor condition.

“They were super sweet right off the bat,” Morosca told The Dodo. “But I was definitely concerned about their appearances.”

Two Stray Dogs Find a Safe Place

Morosca offered the hungry dogs food and water, and they happily followed her back to the Airbnb.

For the next four nights, the pair stayed close by, sleeping on the porch outside the house.

Although both dogs were friendly, it was clear they had experienced hardship. They were cautious and easily startled, but as the days passed, the black dog slowly began trusting Morosca.

One quiet moment stood out above all the rest.

While she gently petted him on the porch, he leaned into her hand, closed his eyes, and completely relaxed.

“I saw his whole body relax,” Morosca said. “It was a really big breakthrough moment.”

Determined to Give Him a Better Life

After forming such a strong connection, Morosca knew she wanted to adopt the black dog if possible. Before making any decisions, she tried to find out whether the dogs already belonged to someone.

She spoke with local residents and contacted her Airbnb host, but no one could provide any useful information.

On the final day of her trip, she brought both dogs to Jefferson Protection and Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS), hoping they could receive the care they desperately needed.

There, she learned the dogs were part of an ongoing neglect investigation. Until the legal process was complete, they would remain at the shelter under an intake hold.

A Four-Month Wait for the Dog She Couldn’t Forget

Although Morosca had to return to her home in Florida, she never stopped thinking about the dogs.

She called the shelter every day for an entire month to check on their progress.

Finally, after four months of waiting, she received the news she had been hoping for.

The black dog was officially available for adoption.

Without hesitation, Morosca drove 12 hours back to Louisiana to bring him home.

A New Beginning for Rhysand

The transformation was remarkable.

The once-emaciated dog had gained nearly 30 pounds thanks to the dedicated care he received at the shelter.

Morosca named him Rhysand, and he quickly settled into his new life.

He discovered the joys of soft blankets, stuffed toys, cozy naps, and endless cuddles on the couch.

“He’s my soul dog,” Morosca said. “I can’t even imagine if I didn’t find him.”

She Never Stopped Thinking About the Yellow Lab

Even after adopting Rhysand, Morosca couldn’t stop worrying about the yellow Labrador she had left behind.

“I always felt like I failed her,” she admitted.

At the time, the Lab was undergoing treatment for heartworm disease and wasn’t yet eligible for adoption.

Then, one evening in July—five months after bringing Rhysand home—Morosca decided to check the shelter’s adoption page.

The very first dog listed was the yellow Lab.

She immediately made another long drive to Louisiana to rescue her.

A Happy Ending for Both Best Friends

Although Morosca desperately wanted to save the Labrador, she knew she couldn’t responsibly keep another dog permanently.

Fortunately, one of her close friends, Giulia Carlton, and her fiancé, Harry, had fallen in love with the dog’s story.

They adopted her and gave her the name Crumpet.

“They fell in love with her,” Morosca said. “She fits into their lives so wonderfully.”

Even better, Crumpet now lives only about 15 minutes away from Rhysand.

The reunited friends regularly enjoy playdates together and have even celebrated their birthdays side by side.

“Rhys knows exactly when we’re going to their apartment,” Morosca said. “He just gets so hyper and excited.”

Another Rescue Finds Her Way Home

Rhysand’s family continued to grow a few months later.

In February, a stray cat began appearing outside Morosca’s home every day.

Rhysand immediately became fascinated with the newcomer. He would watch her through the glass door and even carry his favorite toys over as if inviting her to play.

Eventually, Morosca took the cat to the veterinarian and welcomed her indoors.

After receiving medical care and taking time to settle in, the cat—now named Feyre—finally met Rhysand.

The two quickly became inseparable.

“They became extremely fast friends,” Morosca said.

Every Animal Deserves a Chance

Today, Rhysand, Crumpet, and Feyre all have the loving homes they once desperately needed.

Looking back, Morosca never imagined that a weekend trip for a concert would lead to rescuing the dog she now calls her soulmate.

She hopes their story encourages others to look beyond an animal’s difficult circumstances and consider giving strays a second chance.

“They’re so loving,” she said.

For Morosca, one unexpected stop on the side of the road turned into a lifelong friendship—and three rescue animals found the futures they deserved.
