On paper, Hondo might not seem like the most conventional candidate for adoption. The blind pup, surrendered to the Greenville Humane Society this past July, sports a slightly bewildered look and a hint of an overbite. But beneath that quirky appearance is a huge heart and a charm that instantly won over the shelter staff.

“We have such a soft spot for our differently abled dogs,” said Emily Zheng, marketing manager for the Greenville Humane Society, in an interview with The Dodo. “When Hondo came to us, we couldn’t wait to earn his trust and make him feel at home. He’s not only adorable — he’s one of the sweetest dogs we’ve met.”

Knowing that finding Hondo a home might be tricky, the team decided to embrace his uniqueness with humor and honesty. They posted a lighthearted description on Facebook that quickly went viral.

“Honestly, we can’t tell you what breed he is,” the post read. “Maybe part piglet, part loaf of bread, and part of your uncle’s favorite recliner. But here’s the truth: Hondo is pure love wrapped in a slightly crumpled package.”
