“She was so weak she couldn’t lift her head …”

From Abandoned to Adored: Lexi’s Unbelievable Comeback

Earlier this spring, Philadelphia animal control officers were called to respond to an eviction — but what they found inside stopped them in their tracks.

Huddled in a pile of blankets inside a small, metal crate was Lexi, a fragile, tan pup whose ribs showed through her thin skin. Her eyes were vacant, her body barely alive.

“When Lexi arrived at our shelter, she was barely clinging to life,” wrote the Pennsylvania SPCA. “She was so weak she couldn’t lift her head, let alone stand.”

Fighting for Her Life

Lexi was rushed into emergency care. The PSPCA’s veterinary team worked around the clock, hydrating her, stabilizing her organs, and never leaving her side. Day by day, Lexi held on.

Then, something changed — slowly but surely, Lexi began to fight back.

“She’s gained a little weight, and for the first time in a long while, she’s been able to go on short walks,” the team shared.

A Heart That Wouldn’t Quit

In less than a month, Lexi transformed. From a dog who couldn’t lift her head, she blossomed into a joyful, bouncy girl who loved toys, short strolls, and head scratches.

“This brave girl has been through a lot,” the shelter shared. “She may be a little shy at first, but give her a little time — and she’ll give you her whole heart.”

When Lexi was finally ready for adoption, applications came flooding in.

And just one week later, the PSPCA shared the update everyone was waiting for:
Lexi found her forever home.

Though she’ll stay at the shelter just a little longer until her spay surgery, soon Lexi will be leaving with the family who saw her strength, her heart, and her joy — and chose her.

“We already know she’s going to blossom into the happiest girl,” the PSPCA wrote. “And we can’t wait to watch it happen.”
