“I couldn’t fight the urge to drive down it and see …”

She Was Chasing Cars Down a Lonely Road — Until One Woman Came Back for Her

Kristin Erwin was heading home from her sister’s house in Texas when she got a gut feeling she couldn’t ignore. As the founder of Streethearts Project, a rescue focused on helping abandoned dogs, she’s no stranger to following her instincts. That day, they told her to take a detour.

“Even though I have plenty of fosters,” Erwin said, “I couldn’t fight the urge to drive down a road that’s notorious for discarded animals.”

And sure enough — halfway down that rural stretch — a little dog’s face appeared in the road.

“She was following the vehicle in front of me,” Erwin recalled, “but eventually she fell behind … Then she did the same to me, ran alongside my van.”

Because of a truck behind her on the tight road, Erwin had to drive a bit further before turning around. But when she came back, the dog didn’t hesitate.

“She trotted right over to me. No fear. Just joy,” Erwin said. “She was jumping all over me, greeting me like she already knew she was going home.”

Erwin scooped her up, popped her into the crate she keeps in her car for emergencies, and named her Shiloh.

A Puppy With No Home — And No Hesitation

Shiloh had no collar, no microchip, and no sign that anyone was looking for her. A little thin and covered in fleas, she appeared to have been dumped recently — likely spending days chasing cars, hoping someone would stop.

“She was clearly just waiting for someone to choose her,” Erwin said.

Now in a foster home, Shiloh is making up for lost time. She’s playful, curious, and completely unaware of her size — often trying to climb into laps she doesn’t fit in. She’s also a bit of a “counter surfer,” Erwin admits with a laugh.

But most importantly, she’s safe, happy, and loved.

A New Future Ahead

Streethearts Project is covering all of Shiloh’s care — from vaccinations to her spay and microchip. Soon, she’ll be ready for adoption.

“She’s a really good, fun puppy,” Erwin said. “I can’t wait to see her find her forever home.”

From a lonely road to a second chance, Shiloh’s journey is a beautiful reminder of what can happen when someone listens to their heart — and when a discarded dog refuses to give up hope.
