They couldn’t believe it …

When Brady Oliveira and Alex Blumberg got word of a dog hiding under a house, they didn’t hesitate — they’ve made it their mission to rescue animals in need, no matter the challenge. But what they found beneath the floorboards went beyond what they expected.

Arriving on-site, the pair discovered a frightened mama dog tucked into the shadows of a narrow crawl space. But she wasn’t alone. Nestled behind her, barely visible in the dust and dirt, was a litter of tiny, newborn puppies.

“We’re not just saving one life,” Oliveira realized. “We’re saving a whole family.”

With patience and gentleness, Oliveira and Blumberg eased the scared mother out first, assuring her she was safe and that they’d be bringing her babies too. Then came the trickier part — retrieving the pups.

Without hesitation, Blumberg crawled under the house, inch by inch through the tight, debris-littered space. One by one, she carefully passed each puppy back to Oliveira, who cradled them with care. By the time Blumberg emerged, she was covered in grime — but all she could think about was the relief of having the entire family safe.

“You’re a good mom,” Oliveira told the now-reunited dog, gently placing the last puppy beside her. “Here’s your babies.”

The canine family was immediately transported to K9 Advocacy Manitoba, where they could rest, recover, and begin their journey toward a better life. Warm, dry, and safe, the puppies began to settle into their new world, and the mama dog finally let down her guard.

Thanks to the unwavering commitment of Oliveira and Blumberg, a family once hidden under a house now has a shot at life inside one — surrounded by love, not fear.
