“We were very surprised …”
A sweet stray dog and her two puppies are now safe and cared for at the Beylikduzu Alfa Veterinary Clinic in Istanbul, Turkey, but their journey to safety is touching hearts worldwide.
It all started with a mother’s unconditional love. Earlier this week, a Good Samaritan brought a sick puppy to the clinic, having found it abandoned on the street. The staff immediately began working to nurse the little dog back to health, unaware that this would not be their only patient of the day.
Not long after, another figure appeared at the clinic’s door β it was the sick puppy’s mother. She had come carrying another puppy in need of care.
βWe were shocked when we saw her,β said veterinarian Baturay OΔan, speaking to The Dodo. βAt first, we thought the puppy she brought was dead, but upon examination, we realized its heart was just beating very slowly.β
The clinic staff quickly began treating the second puppy, allowing the devoted mother to stay by its side. OΔan believes that the mother had given birth weeks earlier but was separated from her pups when someone took her for spaying. Without her warmth and care, the puppies became hypothermic.
Realizing this, the mother followed the Good Samaritan to the clinic, determined to get help for her other pup. Tragically, she later arrived with a third puppy who couldn’t be saved. Despite the heartbreaking loss, her devotion was not in vain.
βNow, theyβll never have to face the world alone again,β said OΔan. βTheir health is stable, and their mother is in good condition. Sheβs a little weak, but weβre feeding her well. The mother and her puppies are staying with us, safe and cared for.β
